Predictive analytics entry strategy

An analytics-driven investment firm building a healthcare BU needed to know which prediction use cases were actually worth building and a leadership team aligned behind the shortlist.

E252-182

Core questions used to frame each vertical

Situation

Need to understand market

  • Investment firm reliant on highly predictive analytics sought to build new BU focused on healthcare applications – their intent was to build predictive capabilities that would serve healthcare customers.
  • Leadership had many ideas for products across verticals (biotech, payer, provider and consumer), but limited exposure to healthcare industry.
  • Client sought to validate their hypotheses, identify additional opportunities and understand (rough estimate) value-capture potential and level of investment required.

Project

Opportunity map and deep dive

  • Developed a framework by which to build clear, organized view of opportunity landscape for each vertical.
  • Leveraged secondary resources  and interviews with industry experts to map-out ~20 use cases in each vertical.
  • Narrowed opportunity list based on client parameters (re: data-type, prediction-timeline and core competency) to set of ~10 total use cases for deep dive.
  • Created tear-sheets on each lead opportunity, highlighting potential value, entry barriers, capabilities required, and selling factors.

Outcome

Recommended use cases

  • Exec team empowered with better understanding of value and existing solutions for predictive analytics across healthcare industries.
  • Structured comparison of use cases, covering value-potential, capabilities required and competitive intensity facilitated nuanced and data-backed debate within leadership team.
  • Exec-team team aligned on which set of 3 use cases to prioritize and updated critical features defined by minimum viable product (MVP) plans.
